About the company

2nd City Council was formed in the Summer of 2000. Founders Cheryl and Dwight Bennett, along with an energetic crew of other volunteers established the original gallery space in the historic Ocean Center Building in Long Beach.

Hard work turned the old office suite into a sun-drenched, airy gallery, complete with rooftop access for events and enough space to mount serious exhibitions.

In September of 2003, this great space was lost. And the search for a new home began.

Fortunately, temporary space was found for 2nd City Council's signature annual event, the Women's Festival of the Arts, in March. The Ebell Club of Long Beach hosted the two-day festival as well as the four-week visual arts exhibition.

Since then we have found a new home in Long Beach. After extensive renovation, we are now located in the "East Village Arts District" of Long Beach at 435 Alamitos Avenue. It's in the old Wille's Tin Shop space between 4th and 5th Streets.

The building includes the gallery space, a back patio and a landscaped urban garden. Visit soon and often!
